Hello Nation,

This past semester at college I took a class called “Presidential Power.” We examined the presidency in a way that gave me a new perspective to the abilities of a president, and the criteria to which we as people judge the Commander in Chief to be successful. After examining several theories I came to find the most convincing one to be a mix of theories proposed by political scientists named James Barber, which pins success to the personality of a president, and Stephen Skowronek, which takes into account political timing or “Structured Agency.” As a student majoring in Politics (with a minor in Campaign Management) I have tried to look to see how I can apply what I am learning to eRepublik. What I have come to conclude is that not everything is applicable but certain things are, and by these definitions I cannot help but challenge Trekker for the presidency.

The eUS since Wild Owl’s last term has been reacting to others actions, rather than creating conditions. We have allowed ourselves to become idle and almost sedentary. Our wars with Indonesia, and Cuba, were nothing but reactions to outside forces. Trekker has been a reactive president. Our war with Indonesia only came after citizens had to practically beg for any sort of FUN in this GAME. It seems silly that we must ask our leaders to actually try to make this game interesting for us, but unfortunately that is where we have fallen to. For example here was Trekker when questioned by Israel Stevens:

Fortress America does not help to make our citizens active, but rather makes us complacent and vulnerable through neglect. An engaged populace makes for a healthy country, and that is not what the Americans that I have had the pleasure of talking with see. Look no further than Wooky’s rebellion to see further proof of Trekker’s reactive personality. Wooky practically told Trekker on multiple occasions that he planned to illegally overthrow the congressionally sanctioned defensive dictatorship. Instead of warning either the public, or at the least congress the country had to learn of this long planned plot days later by a post on the forum.

I have had the honor of being the Vice President the past two months. I am very grateful for the opportunity that Trekker gave me by allowing me to serve this country through this important role. As your Vice President I have been given a first hand look at what the Trekker presidency looks like. Early on Trekker faced criticism for the lack of media he was putting out, whether personally, or through the WHPR. I offered my advice of selecting an active citizen in the media, Tom Cauchon, to replace smee as Secretary of Media. Instead of acting quickly to address this important concern of the public, the country had to wait several days to see any form of progress. I became disillusioned with this lack of decisive action and took measures into my own hands, and contacted Tom directly and gage his interest and ideas about the position. I bring up this anecdote as an example of the type of leadership that has been demonstrated by Trekker. A relatively easy task was drawn out despite its great importance to the eAmerican community.

I have played this game for nearly 4 years now. I have had the pleasure of serving in many administrations at either the Secretary or Deputy level. During this time I have been:

Vice President
Speaker of the House x2
Party President of USWP x2
Secretary of Interior
Secretary of Media
Secretary of Homeland Security
Represented both 6th parties and USWP in congress 19 times
Been a member of SCI
Deputy Secretary of State

It has been a fun time, and much of that fun has come from the actions taken by the President at the time. When we have a president who does not feel it is their responsibility to bring enjoyment to the citizens of the eUS, I see a problem. I have tried to work within the system, but I have been able to change the path our country is going down under Trekker. A path where we are no longer shaping our destiny, but allowing others to make it for us.

It is with this in mind that I announce my candidacy for President of the eUS! Under my leadership I will guide our country toward a better path, and once again make America the decider of its own fate! I ask you to join me on this path, and help put me, SColbert, in the White House!

Hello Nation,

In this article I will lay out my platform for the eUS’ continued success. I will also introduce you to my choices for Vice President and Chief of Staff. I believe this nation deserves a winning strategy and continued success. I think we can do better, and here is how I plan to do that.

USAF

The USAF needs active leadership. The sense of community in the MU has become non-existent, and corps need to be whipped into action. As one of the planks of eUS diplomacy, and defense we cannot afford to allow the USAF to fall into anymore despair. Action needs to be taken, but not just throwing supplies and money at the problem.

USAF needs pride once again. It needs leadership that will actively engage its members. It needs organization. Which is why I am happy to announce that in my administration Hale26 will serve as CO of the USAF. He is not afraid to tell the hard truths that are needed to fix the MU, and I am very confident in his abilities. The USAF can do better, and this is a major step in addressing the issues it faces.

Media

One of the most important aspects in this game is the media module. It allows players to communicate ideas, and for the government to inform its citizens. I think the Media Dept needs to be reenergized. I look back fondly on the media campaigns that led up to military conflicts. We were able to create real excitement through the proper trolling, and articles. This should be a very fun aspect of the game, and I feel it is currently being underutilized.

As president I will have a WHPR out at a minimum of twice a week, with a target of three issues per week. The paper will cover the important topics of conversation facing our country, as expected. It will also serve to get citizens more interested in their government and what is going on abroad and at home. I think this is something recent issues has been lacking, and I think we can do better. Wars will be covered with the proper amount of trolling, and general shit talking that should be a pillar of any fun war.

Foreign Affairs

Not since TWO have we seen such a unipolar world, with Asteria at the top. Under the genius of Wild Owl we have been able to create stability, wealth and peace for the eUS. He has been able to put us in a place where something like the summer invasion of 2013 looks to be impossible. I am very thankful for this work he has done that has kept us so safe.

The world is changing though. A unipolar order will not last indefinitely, and the cracks in Asteria will start to show, if they haven’t already. We need to prepare for this, and also keep our ties with Pacifica strong. In order to do this we must remain vigilant, and adaptable. Complacency is not an option. For too long we have been willing to coast by. The next few months will be testing, and we need to place ourselves in the proper position in order to whether the storm.

Domestic Affairs

I have been very happy with the job that BeachBunny is doing in Interior. I wish to continue that activity, but under new leadership. I will be announcing a new Secretary of Interior in my next article, as she will be busy in her new role. As President the Depts of Interior, and Education will have articles in “First Steps” at all times, and have IRC staffed so that new players can be received by a helpful hand.

This will mean needing to hire more deputies, and getting more new people involved. This is an important aspect of my platform. I think we should be training tomorrow’s leaders. We can do better, and as president I will be aggressively courting new players to get more involved in their government. During my times as PP of USWP and Speaker of the House I made this a pillar of my work, and I hope to continue it as CP.

The Mike is an excellent addition to the team, and will make an awesome Vice President. He has great experience working in NSC and in the State Dept, as well as serving as Chief of Staff for Trekker. I am so grateful he decided to be my Vice President!

BeachBunny will be my Chief of Staff. She has been a great Speaker of the House, Secretary of Interior, and most recently PP of AMP. I know she will do a great job in this position as well.

Hello Nation,

Today I will be introducing you to the the rest of my cabinet. Many of these players are well known, but as promised I have included some new blood. Without further ado here is my cabinet!

Secretary of State Wild Owl

A multiple term former president, and all around foreign affairs genius, Wild Owl is invaluable. Not only that, he is also one of my oldest and best friends in this game.

NSC Chair Garmr

Garmr currently serves as the Secretary of Defense where he has been very successful. I am so happy he decided to join my team.

Secretary of Defense rainy sunday

She is well known for being an awesome person, and really needs no introduction. rainy has been so great to me these last few days, and I know will do an awesome job as SoD.

Secretary of Media Aramec

Our media dept needs some fun, and trolling. Aramec is just the guy for the job, and I have great confidence in his ability to create excitement for the eUS through the WHPR.

Secretary of Education Blande

Why mess with a good thing? Blande is the current SoE and will continue on in this position in my administration. His work has been excellent, and really impressed me.

Secretary of Interior F. Underwood

Underwood is a new player that has earned experience fast. He currently serves as a Deputy in the dept of Interior, as well as being the Deputy Chief of Staff. He has the work ethic, and support he needs to be a success part of the team.

Secretary of Homeland Security beerman616

beerman has proven himself to be an excellent administrator as PP of AMP. I am so happy he decided to join my team, and can’t wait to see an active Dept of Homeland Security under his watch.
